HOMILY OF TUESDAY 13TH WEEK OF THE ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: PREPARE TO MEET GOD?
BY: Fr. Oselumhense Anetor
Amos 3:1-8,4:11-12; Matt. 8:23-27
The first reading of today from the prophecy of Amos ends with a strong statement, “…Israel, prepare to meet your God!” Phew! This is supposed to be an interesting invitation. But going through the cause and effect statements of the reading, and realising how unfaithful to God Israel had been, we come to understand that ‘prepare to meet your God’ was actually a summons to judgement.

In the gospel reading, Jesus, by calming the storm, assures us not to fret even when storms come our way. We must therefore commit our lives to a good cause; knowing that there will be a time of reckoning. Through the persecutions and tribulations of life, faith must overcome fear, if we must prevail. What will you be remembered for? Friends, if God were to tell us today, “prepare to meet your God”, what would it mean for us? A loving invitation, or a fearful anticipation of judgement?
Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
