MONDAY HOMILY OF 10TH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: HOW HAPPY ARE THE POOR IN SPIRIT

BY: Fr Deotacious Chikontwe SMA

Matt. 5:1-2

INTRODUCTION
Good Morning my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, today we celebrate Monday of the 10th Week in the Ordinary Time, Liturgical Calendar Year B.

FROM OUR FIRST READING
In our First Reading today, we hear how Elijah tells King Ahab there will be no rain except by his word. Then, God sends Elijah to the Wadi Cherith, where ravens bring him food, and he drinks from the stream.
This story shows God’s care for Elijah. Even in difficult times, God provides for his needs. Elijah’s trust in God is an example for us.

FROM OUR GOSPEL READING
In the Gospel reading today, Jesus teaches the Beatitudes. These are blessings given to those who live according to God’s ways. Jesus promises rewards in heaven for those who follow these teachings. The Beatitudes teach us about humility, mercy, and peace. Jesus blesses the poor in spirit, those who mourn, and the meek. He promises comfort, inheritance, and satisfaction to those who seek righteousness, show mercy, and are pure in heart.

CONCLUSION
Today’s readings encourage us to trust in God like Elijah. It reminds us that God provides for our needs, even in tough times. We can find comfort and strength in His care.
The Beatitudes show us the way to live a blessed life. By being humble, merciful, and seeking righteousness, we align ourselves with God’s will. This brings us true joy and peace.
Let us take the readings to heart. Trusting in God’s care and following the Beatitudes will help us live faithfully. We will experience God’s blessings and share His love with others.
Have a Blessed New Week everyone. God bless you all.
