SERMON/HOMILY FOR 12TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B

SERMON/HOMILY FOR 12TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: THE UNFAILING ANCHOR

BY: Fr Joseph Nyarko Asare

Job 38: 1 -11, 2 Cor 5: 14 -17, Mark 4: 35–41

The preacher once said that chance and time happens to everyone. We are all exposed to the same conditions of life whether we are holy or sinful, young or old. Life offer the same platform and possibilities. What makes the difference is how each one of us handles the situations that happen to us all.

The book of Job is an extended parable, a story written to teach a lesson and not a historical fact. The writer tries to solve the problem of how and why evil happens to good people. At the end, we discover that God does not robot control us. He allows us to endure whatever life brings but never allow the faithful to end up in shame. Those who hold on to God are not insulated from troubles; they are, however, delivered from everyone of them.
The second reading talks about life in Christ. It is a life that, indirectly, attracts trouble and enemies but makes us new and renewed. We are not subjected to the principles of of life. Something may start very bad for us but end gloriously. Indeed, with Christ, all things are made new for the believer.
When we walk with the Lord, we may encounter storms and turbulence. What marks us out of the world is that we have a source to look up to and cry out for deliverance. Our God has power over the laws of nature. Yes, even the wind and storms obey him. In this new week, renew your hopes in God and be faithful in following the Lord in all the circumstances life brings.
