WEDNESDAY HOMILY OF 10TH WEEK OF THE ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: STOP HOBBLING!

BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor

I Kings 18:20-39; Matthew 5:17-19

Have you ever met persons who find it difficult to make decisions? They are much more annoying than those who simply say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. Today, Elijah is fed up with Israel’s tendency to follow God today, and Baal tomorrow. So he simply decides to give them all a big demonstration. ‘How long’, he says, ‘do you intend to hobble first on one leg, then the other? If the Lord is God, follow him; if Baal, follow him…’ We know the rest of the story.

Friends, when it comes to serving God, we simply cannot afford to hobble around on different legs each day. We must get to our own Mount Carmel where we DECIDE whom to serve. The Israelites made a decision after experiencing first hand, Baal’s worthlessness and God’s glory. We have to make ours. We cannot say we belong to God, but continue serving fat bank accounts, cars, buildings, degrees, fame and power. We cannot continue taking God’s laws for granted, while encouraging others to do same. We must STOP THE HOBBLE!

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
