WEDNESDAY HOMILY OF 11TH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: THE HYPOCRISTY THAT STINKS!

BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor

2 Kings 2:1,6-14; Matt. 6:1-6,16-18

Someone once said of Catholics, that they are the most hypocritical set of Christians he had ever seen. This is a sweeping statement. It is false. However, we do have in us, to some extent, a tendency to protect the institution rather than the people. We worry more about impressions than our essence. This is sad. It is the kind of hypocrisy that Jesus outrightly condemns today. God has never, and will never be interested in self aggrandisement. He’s more concerned about what’s done in secret, and this is what he rewards.

Friends, it’s never about who appears to be better. It’s more about who’s actually better. So rather than spend time and money building awesome Cathedrals, ultramodern parish houses; importing religious garments and priestly vestments from Rome, we should be more concerned about the people being trampled under foot and oppressed day after day. Elisha inherited a double portion of Elijah’s anointing only because he was TRUE to the mission. If we too are true to the mission, then God will give us the unction to function effectively, just as he did with Elisha. May God help us all, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
